AGM, Elections, Dinner and Dance, March 07th, 2009 On March 7th 2009, Ugandans and Friends of Uganda in British Columbia held their Annual General Meeting, Executive Board Elections, Dinner and Dance at Samosa Garden Restaurant 3502 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC. The day started with the AGM at 4pm and the executive elections at 5pm. This was then followed by a delicious buffet coupled with appetizers, 8 course menue, dessert, and a complimentary beverage to go with the meal.
The Dinner was well attended with over 250 well-dressed people in attendance. One longterm attendee acknowledged that "he had never seen Ugandans at their best for a long time". Majority of the men pulled off their traditional "Kanzus and Kitenje" while ladies embraced the African "Gomesi and busuuti". Others showed off beatiful well-designed suits and dresses. The comourflauge was to die for. The guest of Honor Hon. Peter Julian - Member of Parliament Burnaby and New Westminster enjoyed the spectacular traditional "Kiganda" dance that was followed by a US based musician "Riddim K" who took the crowd by storm. In the MP's speech, Peter acknowledged that after attending Ugandan events three years in a row, he is amazed at how the Ugandan community has grown in the last five years, and the Kiganda dance is one of the best there is in the African community. "this is good news for British Columbia and the African Community in general" he quotes.This was indeed one of the best events the Ugandan community had had in a long time. for more details click here UgandansĀ meetĀ in BurnabyOn November 30th, 2008, Ugandans and friends of Uganda in BC met at Our Lady of Mercy Church located at 7481 10th Avenue in Burnaby. The meeting was organized by a caretaker committee of UCABC with the main objective of updating the community on where the association was heading and the importance of Ugandans getting involved in their community. It was a very successful evening with alot of positive ideas that came from the crowd. A total of 76 people attended the meeting and dinner including Ugandan Hon. Consel John Halani, respected community elders Micheal Okoth, Margaret Mubanda, Prakash Joshi, and many others. Special thank you to a generous community member Mr. Milton Carassco on behalf of Transoft Solution Inc., who sponsored the project. With reference to the above, the Organizing committee of the Dinner/meeting and the caretaker board, hereby take the opportunity to thank all of you who made every effort to come to the meeting and made it a success. The meeting was an initiative and a Call to Action, and your response was positive and inspiring. It was a demonstration of your communal conscience, a sense of duty and responsibility to your community. Whereas all these developments are a good sign for us, it is also important to remind you that the tasks ahead are enormous and challenging. But together, we can prove our worthiness and capabilities as achievers and bring the services we need to ourselves and to our community. At this point, your continued contribution and support are essential for us to realize our goals and dreams. They are vitally required, and it is our greatest hope and confidence that we will continue to rely on your support and input.
