Top 100 BC business woman

Raised in both Uganda and Rwanda, Maria Arankunda has lived and worked in Vancouver, Canada, for many years. She is a beautician with a beauty salon in the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby.

In 2008, the BC Women’s Enterprise Centre recognized Maria as one of the 100 top female entrepreneurs in the province. Ms Arankunda notes that her secret for success is: patience, perseverance, and passion.” Maria is a role model to women in business and members of the African Canadian community.

Maria migrated to Canada in 1998 with her family. She worked as a professional hair stylist back home in Africa and thus desired to be self-employed in the new home in Canada. She therefore attended the Vancouver Community College and majored in cosmetology. Realizing her dream to be her own boss, in 2005 Maria opened World Shine Salon, a world-class beauty and hair-dressing salon, and spa located at 7621 6th Street in the heart of Burnaby, BC (604) 524 0681.

A stalwart in her community, she volunteers in several organizations. Maria lives in Port Cotquilam with her husband and children.
